Planner careers are an important part of any industry such as transportation, government, manufacturing etc. Getting ahead of everything makes a big difference. The IT support workers develop databases and translate data using analytical tools to generate costs, trend in population, transportation, employment, and housing. The planners also use a mapping tool such as geographic information system to cover population density.

The working environment for regional and urban planners involves lots of travelling and explores the best features of the land for developmental projects. The city planners are on the field most of the time. Aside from the regular work time, the city planners also must attend community meetings to address certain issues if there is any. The city planners also must face deadlines and tight schedules not to mention pressures from political ends concerning the development of the land.

The educational attainment for city planners requires a master’s degree from an accredited planning program that offers training for many planner careers. Certification and experience offer the best chances for employment. A bachelor’s degree in geography, information technology particularly in GIS, urban design, civil engineering, and planning are required for entry level planners.

Planner careers also require the following graduates of the following courses: statistics, GIS, architecture, geography, economics, finance, earth sciences, health administration, and management. Interns and students are encouraged to attend seminars, lab courses, and workshops and work part time in a city planner’s office or during summer.

The planner jobs annual median income ranges from $60,000 to $76,000 dollars:

• Engineering and architectural and other related profession - $70,000
• Developmental and scientific services - $65,000
• Technical, management and Scientific services - $$63,000
• The local government - $62,000
• Universities, colleges - $60,000
