Overall Job Objective Position Summary & Duties Responsible Position SummaryUnder general direction be responsible for the department planning functions and analysis of existing departmental operations.Duties and ResponsibilitiesResearch program ideas under consideration by the administration.Perform research, data gathering, data analysis, and data interpretation functions for short, medium and long-range department planning activities.Conduct evaluations of existing programs and procedures; prepare special reports identifying and evaluating alternative strategies for management.Identify research needs and may recommend specific projects for planning and development activities.Prepare cost/benefit projections in regard to proposed plans in an effort to effect cost reduction for the department.Develop and recommend grant management policies and procedures.Develop and administer grant proposals.Assist other units in the department with projects in which planning is involved.Review forms to evaluate need for revision, consolidation or discontinuation. Design, draft, and propose modifications as needed.Coordinate department planning task force committees in an advisory capacity.Present data in narrative, graphic or oral reports.Attend official meetings as assigned.Analyze County development and zoning cases for the effects on the Sheriff's Department.*The above information on this job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor Degree in Planning, Public/Business Administration or related discipline plus four (4) years responsible work experience in a planning related position.Or any combination of post-secondary education and/or experience in planning or related field totaling eight (8) years.Knowledge of planning procedures, research methodology and statistical analysis.Ability to do cost projection analysis.Ability to research diverse and complex issues, to identify and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations supported by data gathered.Ability to communicate effectively both in written documents and oral presentations.
