MBUSI is home to the GLE, GLE Coupe, and GLS Sport Utility Vehicles and the C-Class for the North American market. Our facility is one of the most advanced automotive manufacturing facilities in the world, with over 5 million square feet under one roof. Purpose of the Position: Under general supervision this position is responsible for enhancing product workflow by analyzing and developing logistics plans that affect production, distribution and inventory. Ensures day to day route management/ planning and strategic improvements to the distribution system, while driving down distributions expenses.
Essential Functions: (List all basic responsibilities related to the purpose of the position)
Prepare planning options, evaluate cost-efficiency, and provide analysis of both via detailed business case studies for Management approval.
Check feasibility of product changes (e.g. MY, MoPf and continuous changes) and coordinate implementation in trials and/or series production on schedule, including but not limited to, additional process steps, line or manpower balance, fixtures, material handling aids, part presentation, error-proofing, ergonomics, and training.
Support Material Handling on the shop floor to verify planning and any process concerns during null series, production trials, launch, and change implementation through the use of, but not limited to, time studies, ergonomic analysis, layout reviews or revisions, business case studies, and manpower planning/verification.
Perform time studies based on MTM process for all material handling processes to be used to determine headcount planning for delivery routes and part receiving.
Align and track delivery method changes within Series Planning and Logistic Operations.
Maintain part bill of material with all relevant logistic data in conjunction with New Type Planning.
Support CI ideas and activities with Material Handling to ensure achievement of their goals.
Work in project groups and lead and/or coordinate projects to implement Daimler worldwide standards.
Procure from and/or exchange information with partners/colleagues in the plant, logistics service provider, suppliers, and various departments (best practice and lessons learned).
Organize internal and external meetings to clarify definition of problems, identify root cause, implement countermeasures, and report findings.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management or related area or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in an engineering oriented environment within a manufacturing setting with strong emphasis on project management, manpower and process planning.
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:
Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills,
Proficient with MS PowerPoint and Excel,
Able to perform basic layout work in AutoCad,
Experience implementing lean material flows,
Working knowledge of SAP,
Strong problem solving skills in a cross-functional team environment.
Preferred Skills: Microstation, START, German Language

Today, the MBUSI plant has buildings with more than 4 million square feet located on 1,000 acres. Besides Body, Paint and Assembly shops, also located on the Tuscaloosa site are a comprehensive training facility, a visitor center and a childcare and wellness center. The Mercedes-Benz Visitor Center, which houses entertaining exhibits detailing the history of Mercedes-Benz -- including its products, technology and commitment to safety -- is open to the public. Since opening in mid-1997, over 230,000 people have toured the visitor center and plant.
