The primary role of the Planner/Scheduler is to improve work force productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination of labor, parts and material, tools and equipment, required permits, specialized documentation and equipment access. They coordinate a broad spectrum of preventive, routine, repair and emergency maintenance activities at the plant, using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) as a primary tool. This role also supports the procurement of parts and supplies for the site.

This is a plant based position and the client is looking for someone who has come up through the ranks working in the plant. This a position in which communication is important since you will be working with individuals at all levels ( mgmt., engineers, operators).


Plans and schedules maintenance work based on demand, workload, skill sets and available parts; inspects work locations, uses the computer, CMMS and other resources to develop plans.

Reviews, plans, schedules and closes work orders on a daily basis.

Work with all departments to define scope of work and schedule accordingly.

Reviews, plans and schedules all recurring PM (preventive maintenance) activities.

Identify changes needed to PM program to optimize the overall maintenance process.

Identifies and obtains all materials required on work orders.

Obtains competitive quotes for materials or services when needed.

Coordinates activities between operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, vendors and other agencies as necessary.

Performs post job reviews to ensure actual work performed and post maintenance testing was adequate.

Ensures safety needs are given a top priority in work planning and scheduling.

Stays abreast of the activities of engineering projects and uses this information in planning and scheduling work.

Develops and coordinates planned monthly outages and annual turnaround schedules.

Assists in the development of warehouse plan for maintenance parts, supplies, materials and tracks inventory levels.

Assists in identifying and recommending training needs, equipment, specifications and standards to help maintain consistent maintenance practices throughout the plant and share best practices across the company.

Reports status of maintenance work to Plant Personnel as directed by supervisor.

Tracks and updates all equipment information, including spare parts and documentation.

Works directly with operations personnel to isolate and repair equipment problems.

Complete miscellaneous items and small projects as directed by Maintenance Supervisor or Engineering

Review and identify all job hazards and verify all required permits are completed and accurate.


Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, with preference for bachelor degree.

Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the methods, practices, tools, facilities equipment, material and safety procedures used in the repair and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and instrument equipment used in refinery/chemical facilities.

Good understanding of O&M requirements and proper OSHA safety practices and procedures.

Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in preventive maintenance principles and practices; planning methods and tools, including planning and scheduling software.

Demonstrate strong two-way verbal and written communication skills including the ability to listen explain and facilitate.

Expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, and the ability to learn how to effectively use computer maintenance management software (CMMS).
