Sr. Systems Capacity Planner
Our client is seeking a Sr. Systems Capacity Planner for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Manassas, VA.
The Sr. Systems Capacity Planner:
drives capacity planning across multiple infrastructure domains, resulting in a single plan of record for each domain. Domains include: Networks, Servers, Storage Area Networks, Web Conferencing, Workstations and related hardware and software.
improves the infrastructure utilization as well as availability and works across the organization to align customer demand with Data Center capacity.
coordinates execution planning across the organization and is accountable for ensuring that there is adequate IT capacity to meet required levels of service.
is responsible to ensure that Senior IT management is correctly advised on how to match capacity and demand and to ensure that use of existing capacity is optimized.
Acts as a focal point for all capacity and performance issues; Identifies, with the Service Level Manager, capacity requirements through discussions with the business users; Understands the current usage of the infrastructure and IT services, and the maximum capacity of each component; Performs sizing on all proposed new services and systems, using modeling techniques to ascertain capacity requirements. Maintains and administers the CA Capacity Manger tool
Forecasts future capacity requirements based on business plans, usage trends, sizing of new services; Produces, reviews and revises the Data Center Capacity Plan and SOPs, in line with the business planning cycle, identifying current usage and forecast requirements during the period covered by the plan; Ensures that appropriate levels of monitoring of resources and system performance are set.
Analyzes usage and performance data, and reports on performance against targets contained in SLAs; Raises incidents and problems when breaches of capacity or performance thresholds are detected, and assists with the investigation and diagnosis of capacity-related incidents and problems; Identifies and initiates any tuning to be carried out to optimize and improve capacity or performance; Performance testing of new services and systems
Identifies and implements initiatives to improve resource usage – for example, demand management techniques; Assesses new technology and its relevance to the organization in terms of performance and cost; familiar with potential future demand for IT services and assesses this on performance service levels; Assesses new techniques and hardware and software products for use by Capacity Management that might improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the process
Produces regular management reports that include current usage of resources, trends and forecasts; Sizes all proposed new services and systems to determine the computer and network resources required, to determine hardware utilization, performance service levels and cost implications; Reports on service and component performance against targets contained in SLAs
Experience with CA Capacity Management tool
Bachelor's Degree; Course of Study/Major: Computer Science & Engineering
Type of Credentials/Licenses: ITIL
Related Work Experience: 6-8 Years
Management experience, e. g., forecasting, planning, scheduling
Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis
Excellent written composition and verbal communication skills
Advanced forecast modeling techniques; capacity tool experience
Experience with ServiceNow ITSM tool
