Basic Function Performs a wide range of entry-level planning activities and provides technical assistance and support in managing regional, multi-modal transportation projects and supporting programs such as, transit-corridor planning, transit-oriented development, joint development, first\/last mile access, and financial planning. Example Of Duties Assists with planning regional, multi-modal transit, and capital projects Supports resarch and analysis, both quantitative and qualitative, of transit projects, programs, and policies Assists in the preparation of specific components of scopes of work, budget, cost estimates, schedules, contracts, and agreements Assists in developing, conducting, and evaluating projections and plans to improve transportation services, facilities, and fiscal effectiveness for various alternatives Assists in reviewing programs, projects and proposals to determine compliance with appropriate laws, rules and regulations Participates in meetings with Metro staff, community organizations, cities and other public agencies concerning the development, funding, management, operation or modification of a transportation-related project Assists in evaluating the costs, benefits and risks associated with alternative funding plans, programs and projects Applies computer software applications and database transportation systems to complete assigned projects Prepares reports, letters, presentations, and responses to inquiries Assist local jurisdictions and outside agencies relative to Metro programs and projects Coordinates with other Metro departments and programs Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out Requirements For Employment Bachelor\u2019s degree - Urban or Transportation Planning, Engineering (Civil, Transportation, Structural, Industrial, Mechanical, Architecture, etc), Business, Public Administration, Political Science, Urban Design, Public Policy, Economics, or other related field 1 year of experience in public transportation or financial planning Master\u0092s degree in a related field may substitute for 1 year of the required experience Previous experience in transit corridor and\/or active transportation corridor planning and\/or environmental process\/documentation is strongly desired Knowledge: Theories, principles and practices of transportation planning for rail, bus rapid transit, and active transportation modes Applicable local state and federal laws, rules and regulations governing transportation policies, funding sources, and environmental regulations Basic methods of research and analysis Financial, analytical, statistical research and mathematical processes and procedures Computer software including Word and Adobe Abilities: Communicate effectively orally and in writing Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives, including community stakeholders and other public agencies Work independently to complete assigned tasks promptly and accurately Read, write, speak, and understand English Continuously grow as a professional by actively seeking out learning opportunities through both job duties and training programs Selection Procedure Applicants who best meet job-related qualifications will be invited to participate in the examination process that may consist of any combination of written, performance, or oral appraisal to further evaluate job-related experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
