For more information about the Department of Game, Fish and Parks, please visit ****The position will provide technical, scientific and economic planning direction to statewide parks and recreation program, to department managers and boards, other department programs, and other state and federal agencies to ensure the preservation of the Department's investment in infrastructure, facilities, and natural resources and be responsive to the needs and opportunities for outdoor recreation; will conduct analysis of pertinent research, data, inventories, needs, and public input; and provides administrative direction to department managers and a statewide parks and recreation assessment and planning program by preparing and implementing a long-term development plan for all phases of the program to ensure and maintain the integrity of the program's purpose.
The incumbent must be capable of occasionally working in less than desirable outdoor conditions, rugged outdoor terrain or marine environments, and ability to travel statewide and occasionally overnight.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A bachelor's or master's degree in planning, landscape architecture, natural resources, engineering, or equivalent is preferred.
analytical tools, methods and theories to apply a systematic and deliberate process of decision making about the future management of recreation resources and recreation opportunities;
processes related project scoping and management, design, cost estimation, budget formation and natural resource management.
manage multiple projects at once;
collaborate with stakeholders, be precise;
meet deadlines and predetermined schedules, adapt to and effectively utilize available technology including Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
provide defensible recommendations and decision-making in recreation planning as sound professional judgment that has given full and fair consideration to all of the appropriate information, that is based on principled and reasoned analysis and the best available science and expertise, and that complies with applicable laws;
identify public issues, management concerns, opportunities, and threats through collaborative stakeholder involvement;
establish planning and decision criteria for evaluating and selecting the preferred alternative;
inventory resources, the current situation, and the best available science and information;
formulate alternatives which address the significant issues and concerns;
evaluate the consequences, benefits, and effects of each proposed alternative;
select a preferred alternative based upon a full and reasoned analysis;
implement and monitor planning efforts.
