Job Description This position will provide the overall leadership for the departments within the Dean of Students area, supports the Universityu00e2??s compliance with and fulfillment of SACS accreditation criteria, VSU Master/Strategic Plan, and CAS Professional (Student Development Services) Standards. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a strategic plan and operational goals for the Dean of Students area in alignment with the Universityu00e2??s mission and budgeted funds. Provide leadership to program development pertinent to various student development theories. Educate students via best practices regarding student rights, responsibilities and campus wide expectations while partnering with the local community, and university resources to meet the needs of all student demographics. Supervise the Director of Student Conduct in coordinating the adjudication of student conduct matters, pre-hearings, disciplinary panel selection and training while serving as the first level of appeal primary point of contact for the Immediate Suspension Protocol. Develops and engagement plan to assure that all students are aware of their rights and responsibilities as students of Virginia State University. Works in collaboration with Title IX, the Department of Police and Public Safety, Athletics, Faculty and Staff in assuring that students, coaches, campus advisors and all other university partners are educated about the polices set forth in the Student Handbook/Preamble. Supervises the Associate Director of Student Life and Engagement and leads assessment and data reporting in making data driven decisions relative to the social, educational and developmental needs of the student body. Serves on university wide committees and task forces. Encourages student academic success and develops policies, procedures and initiatives regarding student life program development. Minimum Qualifications Masteru00e2??s degree from an accredited program in Higher Education Administration, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field required. Successful candidate must possess considerable knowledge and experience in developing and implementing policies, standards and expectations. Excellent communication and writing skills. At least 5 years of experience in supervision of student affairs professionals. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in strategic planning, departmental budget management, assessment and data collection/reporting, CAS Standards and Student Development Theory. At least 5 years of demonstrated crisis management. Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree from an accredited program in Higher Education Administration with experience in working in collaboration with campus police, and traditional departments within Student Affairs (i.e. Greek Life, Residence Life, Counseling, Health Services, Diversity and Multicultural, Student Activities, International Programs).
