Typical work hours will be four 10 hour days, Monday \u2013 Thursday and Fridays as required or when Operations work. Candidates should expect to work additional hours/days as necessary to ensure successful project completion.
This position is responsible for the technical development and improvement of manufacturing systems and processes. This includes work instruction, sequence, tool, equipment, and machine specification, design, and implementation. Will also provide production support for technical issues. Works closely with production management and tooling in the continuous improvement of existing manufacturing systems, processes and equipment
Responsible for the quality of work, reliability, schedule (if appropriate), cost and delegation of tasks on one or more projects and/or Team Members.
Acts as a mentor to other engineering staff and models problem solving skills with a proven ability to develop others.
Actively participate in all systems manufacturing planning, including capital investments, product design issues, resource allocation, plant lay out and quality issues.
Shares responsibility for the effect of technical decisions/judgments on program schedules or goals critical to the organization with other engineers and managers.
Improve product quality and reduce cost throughout analysis of production methods, processes, and optimum utilization of personnel.
Requires little or no supervision.
Responsible for project planning, often acting as a liaison between design engineering, operations, and the technical team.
Provide expertise in machining, welding, material handling, and assembly processes.
This may lead a technical team in developing and applying reliable manufacturing engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of manufacturing technical problems. This team member will be required to design and implement new manufacturing methodologies for material handling, machining, welding, paint and assembly. They will also be required to maintain detailed documentation and effectively communicate with the operations, design and technical support teams. Considerations for safety, quality and delivery are required in all manufacturing engineering decisions. The team member should be able to perform within the principles of Lean Manufacturing, Just-in-Time and Total Quality Management systems/processes.
B.S. Degree in Engineering. Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or Industrial. Other degrees will be considered with appropriate experience.
Proficiency in SolidWorks is desirable.
2 years of experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with computers, including MS Word, Excel, E-mail and a CAD program.
Understanding of Toyota Production System/Lean Manufacturing concepts and goals.
Must be able to manage work load for multiple projects at once.
Must have a proven history of working independently with minimal direct supervision and ability to work competently within a team
Demonstrated team player and team leader qualities.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Welding, machining, fabrication skills and experience is a strong plus.
Technical expertise to perform root cause analysis
Ability to teach, develop, document, update, and improve work processes
Develop and evaluate Engineering Change Request (ECR)/Engineering Change Notice (ECN)/Special Manufacturing Instruction (SMI) proposals/processes for production, including design improvements, and prototyping.
Ability to evaluate, develop and implement improvements quickly.
Ability to develop engineering drawings and schematics.
Understanding of how to utilize precision measurement devices
Flexibility to work overtime, different shifts, and travel, on short notice as necessary.
