Summary: The Materials Planner is responsible for overseeing the analysis and planning of materials for VQ Manufacturing Operations and the reconciliation of serialized and non-serialized inventory throughout the VQ Distribution network. The incumbent will work on complex problems that may require the development of new methods, techniques or technologies. Work is reviewed for results and overall applicability. The Materials Planner is responsible for documenting and assuring compliance for all material transactions and issuances to support Manufacturing Operations and the monitoring of all present and future demands to ensure ongoing fulfillment of orders. Duties include, but are not limited to maintaining control of proper inventory levels, responsibility for overseeing the proper execution of inventory counts, documenting all processes to ensure compliance with all company requirements, and reporting the root cause and corrective actions for any findings of material variances. Works under general direction and guidance of the Director of Manufacturing Operations and is responsible for all planning and scheduling of manufactured and/or subcontractor provided parts through the following systems: Material Requirements Planning (MRP), Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) and Capacity Requirements Planning (CRP) to support production manufacturing. Familiar with a variety of the organizational concepts, practices, and procedures, as well as, a complete understanding of material planning and control. This position relies on experience and judgment to organize, plan and accomplish department objectives with a wide degree of creativity and latitude expected to fulfill a variety of duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Manage the comparison of physical inventories to company records such as purchasing records, vendor invoices, or general ledger to maintain current inventory valuations. Maintain the integrity of Inventory as an asset to the company, including the ongoing analysis and reconciliation of all inventory related transactions as they relate to inventory valuation, transaction and problem resolution. Manage the coordination of and physical transfer of inventory into the serialized rental pool as necessary, including the development and maintenance of all documents necessary for recording transfers. Oversee the monthly serialized and non-serialized reconciliation process to include researching and correcting any potential discrepancies. Assist the Distribution Manager with coordination of the inventory and cycle count processes including report generation and validation. Identify and implement the necessary quality control and efficiency processes associated with the materials management department to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of processing and the maintenance of accurate records. Interpret and recommend changes to policies/practices that affect the unit Contribute to the development of new principles that may advance the state of the art in inventory management Locate, segregate, and disposition material as directed through procedures, Management or Engineering Change Order (ECO) by labeling and/or transacting the material to the correct location or disposition state. Remove and disposition scrap, physically and perpetually as directed by procedures, Management or ECO Operate forklift and/or company vehicle to complete stockroom duties Maintain a current knowledge of Accounting, Finance and/or business principles Ensure that Manufacturing Operations receives appropriate, accurate information as required for monthly analysis and reporting with respect to all materials management activities and other measures of productivity as required. Make recommendations to department managers to implement system modifications to ensure department goals are being met in an efficient, timely and professional manner Manage problem resolution and conflicts within area of responsibility Exercise conservable latitude to self-determine goals and methods and align them with current Company strategies Follow Company policies and procedures and support the goals and objectives of the Company Maintain ethical behavior in the workplace as defined in Company policies and procedures. Interpret and accept instruction, direction and coaching from direct supervisor Handle internal and external communications with tact, diplomacy and discretion Interact effectively, appropriately and professionally with co-workers, staff, supervisor, management, customers, vendors and visitors Interface regularly with the Finance and Distribution departments to balance the inventory values with the general ledger, coordinate monthly and daily physical inventory processes, etc. Effectively present information and respond to questions from external customers, supervisor, leads, coworkers and other staff Assist the Purchasing Department with the creation of Purchase Orders as needed Support Purchasing Department and ensure accurate planning by identifying slow or non-moving inventory identified through cycle counts and inventory stock checks Perform follow-up as needed with the Purchasing Department and off-site personnel to confirm, clarify & coordinate all orders for accuracy and timely delivery. Work with the Purchasing Department to reconcile inventory discrepancies and adjust order plan accordingly Proficient use of MRP & other reporting tools to avoid stock out situations and to maintain inventory levels at appropriate minimums Work with Purchasing Supervisor on cost savings & cost reduction plans Make routine decisions requiring moderate use of independent judgment Assist with other assignments or special projects as required Handle high to moderate stress in a professional manner Competency: Job Specific Duties: To appropriately and effectively support the function and activities of the Materials Management Department. Operations, Quality & Performance Improvement: To effectively administer projects, customary assignments and activities of the Material Management department through individual contribution, appropriate delegation and routine follow-up with appropriate personnel to achieve the unit’s goals. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree preferred Additional 4 years related experience or equivalent of education plus directly related education, training and experience Technical Skills: Highly proficient in software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other standard MS Office Programs Proficient in customer database programs, such as TIMS, TOMS and NAV Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percentages Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs Apply basic accounting concepts to business reporting and reconciliation Read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journal, technical procedures, or governmental regulations Physical and Mental Demands: Typically interacts with staff, peers, senior management and external customers Ability to handle moderate to high stress Regularly required to sit, stand, move about, stoop, bend, reach, finger and grasp and to move and/or lift up to 50 pounds Regularly must see and read computer displays and reports, PDA displays & cell phone displays Must regularly type and or enter data using computer keyboards. Certificates and Licenses: Professional certification in inventory management or accounting principles is preferred but not required A valid CA driver license is required Must maintain appropriate level of automobile insurance necessary to insure and protect the Company from liability arising out of the misuse of your personal vehicle while performing the essential duties of the position. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. The work environment varies between that of a typical office setting with controlled temperature and humidity and a typical automobile interior, traffic and noise associated with commuting, along with typical patient home environments for short durations.
